Two Front Pages and a Hate Crime: Joining the NewsBiscuit Ranks

It’s been a strange, high-velocity week.

After 22 years of navigating the worlds of novels, short stories, songs, and podcasts, I decided to try my hand at a different kind of discipline: the short, sharp, and often surreal world of satire at NewsBiscuit.

NewsBiscuit has been a staple of the British satirical landscape since 2006. Founded by John O’Farrell with the goal of “bringing the news to a world that didn’t know it was missing any,” it has spent two decades as a training ground and a showcase for some of the sharpest comic minds in the country. Having followed the site’s evolution for years, there is a genuine thrill in finally contributing to such a storied stable. After a career spent largely in long-form storytelling, stepping into a platform with such a rich history of biting wit feels like a natural—if slightly chaotic—next chapter.

I’m pleased (and slightly surprised) to say that the “internal compiler” seems to be working. Today, I landed my second front page of the week with the lead headline story: Global AI labels the word ‘Artificial’ a hate crime.

It’s a fascinating challenge to see if you can still catch the eye of an editor and an audience in the space of a single coffee break. I’ll be contributing more to the site as the spirit (and the absurdity of the 2026 news cycle) moves me. For now, I’ll be back at the desk, working on the final polish of my sitcom and trying to figure out if the AI in my script is offended by this blog post.

Stay tuned.
